This here is a 6 week exploration of movement. Each session we will be diving deeper into different limbs all pointing the profound correlation between movement, music, and embodied freedom of expression. Every session aims to provide a framework in which the method being studied can be examined, practiced, and used as a launch pad for personal expression and self discovery. In the 5th chapter of this 6 week movement series, we will be shaking it up, moving it around, breathing with it, and slowing it right down. We will be getting in touch with our life force, or our “chi/qi,” and tuning into the subtle energy that is our own existence. Tai Chi is slow, rhythmic and meditative movements that are designed to help allow for the presence of peace and calm and mind and body. It is an ancient Chinese martial art that descends from Qi Gong, an ancient Chinese discipline with roots in Chinese medicine. Qigong is a discipline that involves focused intention, breath and movement to create a natural balance of energy. “Qi” means “universal life force energy,” while “gong” means “accomplishment or skill cultivated through practice.” Together, it creates a system practiced for health, healing, and increasing one’s vitality. Let’s be well. See www.subtlesubstance.tumblr.com for more details.
