This offering is an opportunity to go beyond the mental chatter of the mind and connect with the Stillness – the Presence – that lies at the level of our Spiritual Heart.

Silent Retreats are a beautiful practice of mental hygiene; cleansing the subconscious mind. The practice of shifting attention from the mind to the Stillness of the heart brings depth – connecting us with the sacred dimension of our being, and anchoring life in a place of increased peace, joy, love, and Freedom. Disconnect from the “busyness” of life.

Relax, reflect and unfold waterside while enjoying the peace and tranquility of the countryside and Shanti’s country inn.

Retreat offerings include:

gentle hatha, slow flow, restorative, and laughter yoga, yoga nidra,

guided meditation,

morning walks,

inspiring talks,

delicious, lovingly prepared vegetarian meals,

and use of Shanti’s amenities, including an infra red sauna session, canoes and kayaks.

About Wendy and Darin

Darin and Wendy are incredibly grateful to have discovered yoga more than 25 years ago at the University of Toronto. This ancient philosophy became a full-time passion in 2003 when they co-created Shanti; a place for kindred spirits to experience the gifts of yoga together. Their journey has led them to explore yoga’s physical, energetic, emotional and spiritual dimensions by drawing upon the Agama, Hridaya and Sivanada yoga traditions. A joyful enthusiasm to share yoga with others is a result of their own direct experience of the healing power of yoga in all aspects of life. They are deeply inspired to ―pay it forward‖ by passing on the pointings they have been blessed to receive from both past and present day masters.

Retreat Spotlight: Summer Sacred Relationships Retreat

Come explore, play and transform the way you view sexuality, partnership and love!

This retreat offering (and its facilitators) has been so well received the past 2 seasons at Shanti, that we have decided to offer it twice this season: Summer and Fall!

We are absolutely delighted to welcome back, dear friends and inspiring facilitators, Tiffany and Kristof!

Monday, June 26th – Wednesday, June 28th for a retreat exploration and introduction to Sacred Relationships.

“From the moment you pull up to the picturesque property, you feel your daily stresses begin to wash away. Myself being the yogi, my partner didn’t know what to expect, but he was quickly reassured by the number of people ‘out of their comfort zone’. The inspiring and real teachers guided us through meditation, open communication and partner yoga exercises with sincerity and acceptance. Everything is optional so you’re free to experience the waterfront, water trampoline, kayaks, canoes, hammocks or lounge at you leisure. The yoga was guided and accessible to everyone and the session on tantric sexuality was super interesting. All you need to bring is an open heart and mind, and you’ll leave recharged and inspired with a better vision of yourself and your relationship! We will definitely be heading back to the sacred relationships retreat!” ~ Kat, Retreat Guest
Some of the topics covered will include:

~ Tantric Sexuality – How do we remember the Sacredness of Sexuality? This will be an exploration and an unlearning of some of the conditionings and limiting beliefs we hold around sexuality, relationships and the sexes.

~ Sexology – Mechanics, tools and practices for more pleasurable, sensual, prolonged and orgasmic lovemaking for both men and women. We will also discuss the importance of the sexual energy for health and well-being and the benefits of channeling and directing this energy.

~ Ayurvedic considerations – Ojas (Vigor/Vital force); Maintaining and replenishing sexual energy; Simple aphrodisiacs and reproductive tonics; Dietary & Lifestyle considerations

~ Yoga practice – You will learn ‘partner yoga’ and the beauty of practicing, playing and connecting as one on the mat. We will also introduce a series of specific yoga asanas that will assist in the control, movement and awareness of the potency of the sexual energy, as well as their healing potential for the reproductive organs.

~ Meditation – Together we will explore meditation practices that focus upon opening our hearts to connection, pure love and deep intimacy with ourselves, our lovers and in our general relation to others.

~ Breathwork/Pranayama – An introduction into specific breathing techniques that can bring deepened presence and connect with our own life force and that which resides in our partner. These will also offer the benefit of amplifying sexual energy and guiding it to flow harmoniously through our system.

~ Compassionate Communication – We will offer ways to remember and maintain empathic, loving and connected communication with your partner, how to deeply listen and honor your own needs and the needs of the other, and how to move forward without blame or shame from times of discord and disconnection.

Recipe of the Week: Spicy Sauteed Greens and Tofu

We all know that the more greens we eat the better.

We also know that organic non-GMO tofu is a great source of vegetable protein.

Now here is something you may not know (unless you were at Shanti Retreat last weekend for Marla Ericksen’s Spring Retreat)…: Combining greens, of all kinds – we used kale, swiss chard and collards – with tofu and a spicy marinade is the best side dish ever!

Be sure to try it out at home and let us know how it turns out!!!

Spicy Sauteed Greens and Tofu

Makes 4-6 servings

One 1-pound block extra-firm tofu

3 tablespoons Tamari

2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil

1/2 teaspoon Sambal

3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

1 tablespoon grated ginger

2 pounds bitter greens, such as collard, mustard, baby bok choy, or dandelion, washed, trimmed, and torn into pieces

1 teaspoon sesame seeds, lightly toasted

1/4 teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes

6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

Prepare tofu (to absorb water). In a medium bowl, combine tamari; sesame oil; sambal; lime juice; ginger; and garlic. Set aside. Transfer tofu to medium bowl; toss with half the marinade; let sit for 30 minutes.

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Working in batches, arrange tofu in a single layer in pan. Cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer to platter; repeat with remaining tofu. Gradually add greens to skillet with remaining marinade. Cook, tossing occasionally, until greens are wilted and most of the liquid has evaporated, 5 to 8 minutes. Transfer to platter with tofu. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and red pepper; serve.
