Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient and sacred system of healing with roots in Yoga, Ayurvedic Medicine, and Buddhist spiritual practice. The massage takes place fully clothed on a mat on the floor allowing the practitioner to use her palms, thumbs, elbows, and feet to apply pressure along the body’s energy lines and pressure points, and gently apply yoga stretches to the whole body.

Thai Yoga Massage is based on the yogic belief that vital energy (prana) flows through a series of channels in the human energy body. Obstructions to the free flow of this energy may manifest in the form of disease, discomfort or emotional problems. The aim of Thai yoga massage is to stimulate the flow of healing energy within the body, restoring equilibrium and harmony, promoting a return to good health. This enhanced energy flow relieves muscular tension, improves circulation, boosts the immune system, and balances the body energetically. Thai Yoga Massage also generates a deep state of relaxation and promotes centeredness and well-being for both the client and practitioner.

Experience this unique form of holistic therapy that is the physical application of a form of Buddhist meditation known as metta or loving kindness, and enjoy bringing body, mind, and spirit back into balance and harmony for health, happiness and wellness of being.

At Shanti, Thai yoga massage is offered by Darin who is a certified practitioner. He has studied with two of the world’s foremost practitioners, Kam Thye Chow in Montreal,( and Asokananda in northern Thailand (

Reiki is an ancient alternative healing technique based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows into and through us at all times, and is what sustains our life as the people that we are. The word “reiki” is comprised of two Japenese words – rei, which means “God’s wisdom” or “the higher power,” and ki, which means “life force energy.” Thus, reiki is a “spiritually guided life force energy.”

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement that everybody can use. Its use is not dependent on one’s intellectual capacity or spiritual development, and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught, or transferred, to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds. It has been effective in helping to heal virtually every known illness and malady, and always creates positive effects. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

A reiki treatment feels different every time, but can feel like a wonderful glowing radiance flowing through and around you. Reiki treats the whole being – the body, emotions, mind and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation, feelings of peace, security, confidence, and all around wellbeing.

At Shanti, reiki treatments are offered by Andrew, who has received his Level 1 Reiki certification with Reiki master Debra Harding of Sacred Vibrations, and his Level 2 with Molly Kubes, both located in Burlington, Ontario. He is open to conscious donations (suggested $40-60) and trades in exchange for treatments, which last between 60 and 90 minutes. If you have any questions for Andrew about his reiki practice, please e-mail him directly at

Movement medicine, free dance, open dance, conscious dance, ecstatic dance, trance dance: all terms pointing to the same thing! As we have evolved, a lot of us have lost touch with what it means to move freely through our lives – physically, and as a result, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Movement medicine is a form of active meditation and devotion where music, movement and breath are used together to shift brain wave patterns from the day-to-day cognitive beta state (alert, awake, “normal” consciousness), to the more meditative and insightful alpha state (a state of mind where it is believed that you can create everything and change reality instantly).

At Shanti, movement medicine sessions are led by Andrew, who has a long standing passion for dance and movement. In a session, you will begin in meditation. As the accompanied music begins to pick up, you will be gently guided to deepen the breath and allow for small, micro movements in the body, preparing and awakening, inviting the body along for a journey of free and spontaneous movement. You will soon become attuned to your body’s impulses, and will quickly feel compelled to move in accordance with the wisdom of your spirit-body. In time, as the practice comes to a close, you will make your way back into a meditation, preparing for the process of relaxation, integration and surrender.

Sessions are sacred and safe spaces of non judgement and open hearts. You will get to explore and release any held limitations surrounding what is considered “good” or “bad” movement, giving yourself total permission to move freely through your practice. You will loosen and open yourself to the possibility of releasing tensions held in the body as a result of contraction and immobility, simply by listening to your heart and moving in alignment with it.

If you are hosting a retreat at Shanti and would like Andrew to host a Movement Medicine session for you and your guests, please contact Andrew by e-mail before your retreat at
